I Love the Way I Talk to Me
I love the way I talk to me,
And the way I style my hair.
I love the way my inner thighs touch,
I love it when I care.
I love my big, bright, blue eyes,
And the way I use my mind.
I love me so much I hug myself,
It makes me very kind.
I love the way I have cellulite,
I love it when I’m shy.
I love it when I can make you laugh,
So much you almost cry.
I love it when my body is sound,
And the fact that I’m an oddball.
But mostly, I love the way I don’t hate me,
Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.
It’s come to my attention once again that I use a lot of negative self talk. When I originally thought to adapt this epic poem from “10 Things I Hate About You,” it was incredibly negative. I listed the things I hated about myself, hoping to then create a post about why it was wrong…*insert face palm here*
When thinking of the most recent time I used negative self talk, I decided to change it to why I LOVE myself. Because that is what is truly important. It’s amazing how hard it can be to practice what you preach. The other day I actually used the phrase, “I’m really bad with negative self talk”...a self-fulfilling prophecy if I’ve ever heard one. So how do I change? For one, writing these posts helps! I can literally see when I use negative self talk and turn it to the positive. I admire people who can be positive at all times and always talk about themselves eloquently and happily. And while I can do that about 60% of the time, the other 40% creeps in fairly often.
So I want to be better. I can and will be better. I pride myself on my optimism and teaching others to love themselves. Once again it’s time to refocus on me and find the progress that is needed. Because I do want to love the way I talk to me.
